(STATS) -- Its rare that FCS programs get to play on a stage as grand as Yankee Stadium, so Fordham and Holy Cross will surely be feeling extra nervous -- or extra motivated. Its gonna be awesome, said Fordham receiver Robbie Cantelli, a New Jersey native and longtime Yankees fan.For Cantellis Rams and star Chase Edmonds, though, theres more at stake than just wanting to win a rivalry game in a renowned venue. The game is vital to the hopes of whether or not their names get called come selection time.Whereas Fordham must defeat the Crusaders on Saturday in the Bronx to keep alive any chance of getting an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs, Edmonds might need a big day to stay in the race for the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award. These Patriot League Football foes first met in 1902, and the annual Ram-Crusader Cup is played in honor of Major Frank W. Cavanaugh -- a World War I veteran who coached both Fordham and Holy Cross. The Crusaders are hosting the game even though its being played a few miles from the Rams campus because it originally was supposed to be held at Holy Cross home in Worcester, Massachusetts.Having the opportunity this year to play a game at Yankee Stadium is something our players will remember long after their football careers are over, Holy Cross director of athletics Nathan Pine said. This will be a special event for everyone involved. It would be made more special for the Crusaders (4-6, 2-3) if they pull off an upset and shut down Edmonds in the process.Fordhams league title hopes went by the wayside last weekend when Lehigh clinched the crown, but the Rams (6-3, 3-1) are far and away the Patriots second-best team. They did receive an at-large bid last season after winning a playoff game in both 2013 and 14, and this years squad has received votes in every single STATS FCS poll.If were an 8-3 football team, the committee is at least going to have to talk about us, Fordham coach Andrew Breiner said. They surely need dominant performances this week and in the season finale at Bucknell to get at-large consideration. Edmonds might need the same to garner one of three finalist spots for the Payton Award despite being the FCS top rusher by a wide margin.Edmonds 1,499 yards put him 284 ahead of second-place Tarik Cohen of North Carolina A&T. Cohen, though, is averaging more yards per carry (7.5 to 7.3) and has rushed for 15 touchdowns while Edmonds remains stuck on 12 after failing to reach the end zone in four straight games. Plus, Cohen has led the Aggies to the No. 10 ranking and an 8-1 record, and there may be room for only one running back among the offensive player of the year finalists. So Edmonds cant afford to have another quiet day as he did last weekend, held to 73 yards on 21 carries in a 24-20 win over a Colgate run defense ranked fourth in the FCS. Plus, he lost a fumble for the second straight week. With all due respect to all the running backs in FCS football, Chase Edmonds is the best running back in FCS football, Breiner said. ... I believe in Chase Edmonds and I will always hand the ball to Chase Edmonds in a critical situation. The junior has totaled 304 rushing yards in two games against the Crusaders. He ran for four touchdowns against them last year, with the last coming in overtime to give Fordham a 47-41 victory. It was the Rams fourth straight win over Holy Cross, though the Crusaders lead the series 27-24-1. Esa Lindell and Rasmus Ristolainen replied for Finland (1-1-0) Lindell opened the scoring for Finland just 41 seconds into the game, but the hosts quickly regained their composure and tied the score less than four minutes later on Wennbergs first of the game. NAPLES, Fla. -- A friend of Cristie Kerr just happened to get a new job, and shes hoping to get a chance to call and congratulate him.Thing is, its a little tough to get the next president of the United States on the phone.Kerr is a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump and considers her occasional golfing buddy a friend. She made an appearance on his reality show The Apprentice and had a relationship of sorts with the Trump Golf brand. She has held honorary membership at his courses for years. And now, shes thrilled that hes about to become First Golfer.I havent talked to him. I havent had a chance to congratulate him, Kerr said as she prepared for Thursdays start of the LPGA season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, which she won last year. I just still cant believe hes president-elect of the United States. I mean, every time I say it, its like, Wow. Really? Its just so shocking, all these protests around the country. Its a fair and square election. Everyone got to vote.Trump has a longstanding relationship with pro golf, some of it good, some not so good.He has hosted mens and womens events in the past, although his course in Doral, Florida, near Miami is off this seasons PGA Tour schedule for the first time in more than 50 years -- mainly because no sponsor could be found to support a tournament there. During a break in his campaign during the spring, Trump said he played a quick nine holes with LPGA player Lexi Thompson.Trump has said his being president would help golf.I love golf. I love playing it. Its a very important game, Trump said at Doral earlier this year. Its a great game. You can learn so much. You make so many great friends by playing it. But I will say this: It wont be good for my game, but itll be great for golf.dddddddddddd.His Trump National course in New Jersey is scheduled to host next years U.S. Womens Open, although three Democratic U.S. senators asked last month to have it moved elsewhere. The United States Golf Association has not moved the event, but those who run the game have expressed concern over Trumps polarizing comments. The USGA, PGA Tour, LPGA and PGA of America released a joint statement in 2015 to distance themselves from Trumps explosive remarks about Mexican immigrants when he announced his campaign for president. Those comments complicated matters when it came time to try to find a new sponsor for Doral.Trump repelled large swaths of the populace, including women and minorities, with his deeply divisive rhetoric during the campaign, but Kerr believes his corporate savvy will benefit the country. The person that Ive known over the years, he always does what he says hes going to do and he surrounds himself with really smart people, Kerr said. Im really happy for him. I hope people will grow to understand that he is a man of his word and he can get things done. Hopefully hell be the CEO of this country like hes been the CEO of his businesses.Kerrs relationship with Trump goes back more than a decade. She defended him last year and said that some of her LPGA colleagues are big fans of his, as well.I dont think people understand how moderate he is, Kerr said. Hes fiscally conservative. He wants to get the country back on track. But hes a little bit socially liberal from some aspects. Hopefully people can get to know him. ' ' '
