BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox placed struggling third baseman Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a fractured right index finger and recalled infielder Brock Holt from Triple-A Pawtucket. The 25-year old Middlebrooks suffered the injury in Fridays loss to Detroit when he attempted to field a line drive in the first inning. Its his second trip to the DL this season after missing 19 games with a strained right calf in April. Red Sox manager John Farrell was unsure how long Middlebrooks will be sidelined, but said hell be in a splint for five to seven days before attempting anything.
