TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on a possible comeback by Jermaine ONeal, the availability of Brandan Wright, the resurgence of DJ Augustin, the solid play of the Suns and the upcoming homestand for the Raptors. 1. Jermaine ONeal: Lots of chatter about him making a comeback. I thought he did a very nice job last season for the Warriors and have no doubt that if he decided to give it one more run, hed be a solid contributor off the bench for a contending team. Gives you some rebounding and rim protection which is vital for anybody serious about getting it done in the spring season. 2. Brandan Wright (Celtics): Since being traded in the Rajon Rondo deal from the Mavs, his minutes are down. This is a guy contending teams might be calling GM Danny Ainge about. Has had a solid season overall shooting over 70 per cent (mostly dunks and offensive rebounds) while averaging 7.5ppg and 3.6rpg and gives you a little lane intimidation (1.3 blocks pg). Not a big strong guy but quick, agile and athletic with good length who, as a second unit insurance policy, could be helpful to a team in the hunt. 3. DJ Augustin (Pistons): Nice to see him resurrect his career since being waived by the Raptors last season. Went to Chicago and helped the Bulls stay afloat and make the playoffs without Derrick Rose and now is giving Detroit a true professional presence off the bench as they turn it around after the Josh Smith release. Can score in bunches and shoot the 3. High energy and changes speeds well. Glad hes found a home - good guy. 4. Phoenix Suns (21-16): Rolling along right now, winning 9 of 11. Have seen them in person twice vs. the Raptors and a number of other times on TV and really like their club. Not even sure if theyll be able to hold on and make the playoffs in the brutal West but Ill say this - you put them in the East, theyre not only a playoff team but a contending team in the top five or six teams due to the fact that the confidence of the additional wins would trigger even greater performance from some of their guys. At times, I dont think these guys know how good they can be. They have guard play, quickness, 3-point shooting, toughness and sound coaching. Fun to watch. 5. Raptors (6 at home): Hopefully, DeMar DeRozan is back and they begin to play much better defence with his knowledge of the system. With him back in the mix, theyll get to the FT line more and other guys will settle back into roles that suit them much better. Overall, they did a solid job playing without him and now its time to get this back on track and moving in the proper direction. Opportunity to get some much needed practice time and get things re-established as the schedule gets closer to the mid-point. Good club with the potential to be very good if they get the defence right. As Ive mentioned before, probably one player away to help big-time in the front court. Fun to be 24-10 right now with a chance to grow from there. Vital stretch right here to improve and protect home court. Wholesale Custom Nike Baseball Jerseys .
