The event marked the 80th anniversary of the Christie Pits riot. The incident occurred on August 16, 1933, after a playoff baseball game between the predominantly Jewish Harbord Playground and St. Peters. A group of Nazi sympathizers descended on the park and displayed a swastika. Later, when confronted, a large fight broke out which grew to include about 10,000 people and lasted for six hours.
